As soon as you approach the trail head at Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge in Exeter, Rhode Island you are immediately greeted by the tallest pine trees and a feeling of serenity. With each twist and turn of the trail, you can’t help but feel excited for what lies ahead.

Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge is managed by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and consists of 5 miles of trails that guide you through a variety of habitats including fields, beech forest, a cedar swamp, ponds, and streams.

When I last visited the refuge in late April, the forest was just beginning to come to life. The skunk cabbage had bloomed, but the buds on the trees were just getting started. I can’t imagine how lush, green, and beautiful it looks now.
